John Starkey began life in Birmingham, England. After school, with dreams of “rock stardom” in mind, he played guitar in several bands, along the way opening for the Beatles in 1963, before becoming Jasper Carrott’s manager. His father’s love of fast cars had passed down to him and, starting with a Jaguar XK120, bought in 1966 for £120, he started discovering this heady world. After a 1958 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta, life was never quite the same again, and the racing bug bit hard when he first drove a Porsche RSR. This was followed by “a beast” of a 935, then a Lola T70 Mk 3b coupé, and a March 84G. These he raced across Europe and America. In 1997, John moved to America, where he began writing, naturally, about racing cars. After twenty books, John thinks he has now run out of subjects to cover, although he has recently begun a novel about the world of dealing in old cars. He also investigates the individual histories of old racing cars for clients, and together with Su, his wife, enjoys walking his dog Boomer.

Super Buch für Fans von Porsche. Karrosorie index ist echt interessant. Details von Porsche Baby 935 waren auch interessant.
This is the benchmark book all others Porsche books have to compete with. Images could be better - but that's about all I have to criticize. Highly recommended.
Der Porsche 934 bzw. 935 ist auch heute noch ein sehr beliebter Rennwagen und sicher einer der aufwendigsten Konstruktionen auf Basis der 911er-Baureihe. Durch den langjährigen Einsatz sind die Modelle vielen Autofans bekannt und konnten oft einen bleibenden Eindruck hinterlassen. Das Buch dazu nimmt sich der Historie sehr umfassend an und blickt auf die Entwicklung und auch auf die Renneinsätze. Am Layout und den wenigen Farbaufnahmen kann man allerdings leider erkennen, dass das die Basis zum Buch schon ein wenig älter ist. Hier hätte man sich bei einer Neuauflage, die zudem deutlich überarbeitet wurde sicher ein moderneres Layout und auch mehr Farbaufnahmen gewünscht. Schade das der Verlag diese Chance verpasst hat. Die Anhänge mit der umfangreichen Chassis-Historie ist aber exzellent und der Leser kann bei Bedarf die Geschichte jedes einzelnen Fahrzeuges nachvollziehen. Hier sind auch die Modelle der Teams berücksichtigt, die nach der Produktionseinstellung bei Porsche das Modell weiterentwickelte oder neu aufbauten.Das technisch unspektakulär umgesetzte Buch ist für umgerechnet 60 Euro erhältlich und macht es vor allem für große Enthusiasten durch die Anhänge interessant. Das die Fan-Basis bei Porsche sehr groß ist, wird das Buch sicher schnell vergriffen sein und als Fan sollte man sich schnell ein Buch sichern.
